30 April 2008

Dear
Friends,

Again a month has passed, May is announcing itself and our programme is also landing into your post box.

Lgbt people in the Highlands are getting out and I am so happy about that. The online lgbt community led to the start of the lgbtcaithness social group that had its first meeting last month and will meet every month from now on. What a better combination than living in the beautiful surroundings of the north of Scotland together with getting to know and socialising with like minded people? Do not forget that we also have an lgbt lunch drop-in at our office in Inverness and that there is also the lgbt Lochaber social group that meets bi-monthly.

Testing…yes there is also some good news on that front. As you probably know, we offer free, anonymous and confidential testing every Tuesday from 5-7pm, by appointment. Lisa Ross, our clinical nurse, is now also offering the opportunity for testing on a drop-in basis, every weekday from 1.30-4pm. Choose the time that suits you best and get tested for HepB, HIV, and HepC or get your vaccination against HepB. Take care of yourself and of others….if you are worried, do not wait, we are here to advise and help you.

Since last year we are running an HIV support group on a monthly basis. From now on, we will run the group alternately on a Wednesday evening and a Friday at noon. It will meet the different needs of different people.

Last but not least, the works have finished, from now on we are occupying the whole building and next month we will be able to announce the long-awaited grand opening.

Take care, keep well

Films in May

T movie The crying game 7May

The twist. It's all everyone could talk about when this movie first was released in theaters. By now most people know what the twist is. But the movie deserves to be here for more than the shock value. It mixes politics and love as its two themes and shows better than any movie that love is a many complicated thing. The performances are outstanding by the entire cast, but Jaye Davidson steals the show. This unknown earned a Best Supporting nomination for the portrayal of the exotic hairdresser that Stephen Rea falls for. Every gay film fan should see this movie.

LGB movie Frenchtwist 27May
Loli is a stereotypical faithful wife, staying at home and taking care of the kids unaware that her husband is off on many sexual adventures. Enter Marijo, who has arrived to help Loli with her plumbing. It doesn't take much perception to see how lonely Loli is, so Marijo makes her move. Usually, right under the nose of Loli's husband. As the budding lesbian romance grows, the husband grows jealous and becomes more faithful, trying to salvage his marriage. In the end, Loli must choose between her husband, or her lesbian lover. Or, must she? There is something to be said for having your cake and eating it too.
